Selection of research topics
For the second time; BREATH launches a call for topics. The aim of this call for expressions of interest is to identify interdisciplinary PhD topics for theses, which will then be open to applications from young researchers. A total of 40 thesis topics will be selected by the BREATH project steering committee. These 40 topics will then be open to applications from doctoral students in 2025 and 2026 (for both cohorts).
20 topics have already been proposed to the first cohort in 2025. 11 of these will be funded once a doctoral student has been recruited for the start of the 2025 academic year. The 9 topics that have not found a candidate will automatically be proposed again in the second call for applications. As a result, this new AMI will enable 11 additional subjects to be selected, bringing the total to 20 thesis subjects to be offered to doctoral students.
Thesis topics will be offered in 5 categories
1. Innovations, tools and technologies in the field of health and disease prevention, with variations on occupational health, for example (on lower back pain, burnout or returning to work after sick leave), and variations by target audience category (distinctions by age or gender, or other). These themes will cover the uses and appropriation of tools (digital tools, for example), and the philosophical, ethical and legal issues they may raise, etc. The issue of connected objects is a good example of the intersection of concerns in health (ergonomics, benefits for the patient) and the human sciences (uses and regulation.).
2. More inclusive and democratic societies, also by age, but also with a view to linking healthcare and social inclusion (ageing and disability). This is reflected in terms of autonomy (daily life), care pathways, practices with a preventive and social dimension (link between school health and parents' views, e-sport and the region) and finally in terms of care (health service for health students in the face of medical deserts).
3. Quality of life and virtuous ecosystems, with variations in terms of more or less risky behaviour (in the face of disease, in the face of global change), in terms of exposure (environmental, to infectious agents, linked to human activities such as agriculture or mobility).
4. Health and care systems (resilience and adaptation), in terms of the resilience and adaptation of both health and social systems in the face of environmental change, economic development (tourism and saturation of healthcare provision), the development of global approaches (One Health), the management of new pathologies (eco-anxiety) and the sustainability of systems (social protection in France).
5. A fifth category of topics will be left open to encourage serendipity. This could be a subject originating from our partners in the business world, or subjects corresponding to methodological or technological approaches rather than themes.
Second call for PhD's topics is now open !
